GAM movie player can control embedded subtitles (SSA, ASS, ASS2) or external subtitle files (*.srt, *.smi, *ssa). After configuring the Media Seetings, subtitles can be selected from the movie player menu during the playback.
EditEmbedded Subtitles
In order to control the embedded subtitles, file playback needs to use 'Haali Media Splitter' as file reader/splitter and 'ffdShow' as video decoder or video post processor. ffdShow needs to be of 'tryouts' version (tested with revision 1355) that supports subtitles.
Here are the setup steps for supporting typical MKV (Matroska) embedded subtitles:
- Run GAM configuration application and go to Media Settings/Videos tab.
- Select 'MKV' under 'File/Container Types' and click on '...' button of 'File Reader' section.
- In 'Reader Filter' window select the 'Haali Media Splitter' and click on OK.
- Select 'AVC/H.264' under 'Video Types' and click on '...' button of 'Decoder Filter' section.
- In 'Video Decoder Filter' window select the 'ffdshow Video Decoder' and click on OK.
- Click on 'P' button of 'Decoder Filter' to configure the 'ffdshow' filter.
- Make sure that 'Subtitles' is checked, and under it 'Accept embedded subtitles' and 'Accept SSA, ASS...' are checked.
EditSubtitle Files
In order to control subtitles files, file playback needs 'ffdShow' as video decoder or video post processor.
ffdShow needs to be of 'tryouts' version (tested with revision 1355) that supports subtitles.
Subtitle files need to be in the same directory with the movie. They need to be named in {movie}[.lang]{.ext} format.
For example, if the movie file name is 'My Movie.avi', the subtitles files can be 'My Movie.srt' or 'My Movie.eng.srt' for English, 'My Movie.de.srt' or 'My Movie.ger.srt' for German, 'My Movie.es.srt' or 'My Movie.spa.srt' for Spanish, 'My Movie.ita.srt' for Italian, 'My Movie.fr.srt' for French, etc...
Here are the setup steps for configuring the 'ffdshow' to support the subtitle files:
- Run GAM configuration application and go to Media Settings/Videos tab.
- Select your video type under 'Video Types' and click on '...' button of 'Decoder Filter' section.
- In 'Video Decoder Filter' window select the 'ffdshow Video Decoder' and click on OK.
- Click on 'P' button of 'Decoder Filter' to configure the 'ffdshow' filter.
- Make sure that 'Subtitles' is checked, and under it 'File' and 'Watch for file changes' are checked.
